Florida Medical Marijuana Card Renewal Checklist
Use this Florida medical marijuana renewal checklist to track your state card renewal, doctor recertification, fees, records, and appointment questions.
Start With Two Dates
Florida patients should check two separate dates before assuming they are ready to shop at a dispensary:
- The state Medical Marijuana Use Registry identification card expiration date.
- The physician certification or recommendation expiration date.
The card and the doctor certification are related, but they are not the same thing. If either one is expired or incomplete, a licensed MMTC dispensary may not be able to complete a purchase.
Renewal Checklist
- Log in to the Medical Marijuana Use Registry and check your card expiration date.
- Check when your current physician certification expires.
- Confirm whether your doctor visit is a first-time certification, renewal, or transfer from another clinic.
- Ask whether the visit must be in person or may qualify for telehealth after the required in-person exam.
- Confirm the clinic's recertification fee and what is included.
- Ask whether route changes, dosage questions, or exception requests require extra review.
- Update your phone, email, address, and required documents if anything changed.
- Keep a copy of any payment confirmations or appointment instructions.
Questions to Ask the Clinic
- Am I renewing my state card, my doctor certification, or both?
- When should I schedule the doctor visit so there is no gap?
- Do I need updated medical records?
- Is telehealth available for my situation?
- What happens if my certification already expired?
Watch for Renewal Confusion
Some patients think renewing the state card automatically renews the doctor certification. It does not. The state card is handled through the registry. The physician certification is handled by a qualified physician.
If you are not sure which date is causing the problem, ask the clinic to explain both dates before you pay for an appointment.
